white blank page
so mumford and sons have a song called 'white blank page' and it is just a wonderful song about writing. i love how he writes about writing as if it was a woman. so here are the lyrics to the song.
Can you lie next to her
And give her your heart, your heart
As well as your body
And can you lie next to her
And confess your love, your love
As well as your folly
And can you kneel before the king
And say I'm clean, I'm clean
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage
You did not think when you sent me to the brink, the brink
You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life
Can you lie next to her
And give her your heart, your heart
As well as your body
And can you lie next to her
And confess your love, your love
As well as your folly
And can you kneel before the king
And say I'm clean, I'm clean
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage
You did not think when you sent me to the brink, the brink
You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life

hitchhiker letterbox
so i have gone and created my first letterbox. it's a hitchhiker letterbox. a hitchhiker letterbox is: A letterbox without a home. A hitchhiker is hidden with another letterbox, and the person that finds it is expected to take the hitchhiker to another letterbox. - as defined by atlas quest. my hitchhiker was not carved by me, i got another letterboxer to do that, and she did an amazing job! i had asked for a carve of a rose and she did wonderfully. i named the letterbox 'just as sweet' after shakespeare's romeo and juliet's quote of '... a rose by any other name...'. i'm very excited about it. since one can't find it unless it's at the letterbox they are at, for the clue i just put the full quote from the play. for the first find, i'm mailing it to one of my best friends, lindsay. she lives in florida and is the person who got me into letterboxing. so i'm going to mail it off to her and she can put it in the first letterbox that she finds. here's how the clue looks for my letterbox - click on clue. and here's the picture the of what my stamp is.
- i must say a big thank you to a friend of mine. he really helped me out with what i should name the letterbox, what the stamp should be and everything else. so big thank you to my portillos eating partner in crime.

happy halloween!
for halloween i thought i would share an image from one of my favorite comic writers/artists. this is from roman dirge, he writes the comic called lenore. he has written other things also, but his main story is lenore. the comic lenore got her name from my favorite story by edgar allan poe: the raven. i thought i would share an image he created for a tshirt that depicts lenore.

hey you - pink floyd
Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I'm coming home.
But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.
Hey you, standing in the road
always doing what you're told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you, out there on your own

costume charactors
so when i was at dragon con there were many different costumes there. from tv shows, movies, comics, manga, video games and of course literature. well since this is a blog about writing i thought i would post the pictures specific to literature here. so here they are.
this was posted before with my main post regarding dragon con, but this is jarlax from the forgotten realms world. he is a very smart dark elf.
these two women are mord sith's from the sword of truth novels. these women are very badass women who can kill anyone who steps in their way.
this is laurana and raistlin from the dragonlance series. laurana is an elf and raistlin is a human wizard. both are very cool characters, but raist is my favorite.
this is matrim cauthon. he is a character from the wheel of time series. he is a very care free character but always lands into trouble. hehe. his army's slogan is 'it's time to toss the dice' i want to get that tattooed on my back.
and this stern fellow is jamie lanister from the song of ice and fire series. also known as the game of thrones series. at first i didn't like this character but as i continued to read the books, i started to like him.

shakespeare letterbox
so i had gone letterboxing a couple weeks ago and have been meaning to mention it here. the letterbox was in a beautiful park and me and a friend went together to look for it. for my friend it was his first time going letterboxing and so i was excited to show him what goes on. the park we were in was just absolutely beautiful. i wished we had time to spend in the park but we only had time to get the letterbox. but we made the best of the time we had. the letterbox we found was a carving of shakespeare. you started at a statue of shakespeare and then followed directions to the letterbox. the stamp was an exact copy of the statue. it was amazing. i don't have a picture of the stamp but i have a picture of the statue. hope you enjoy. and as a ps, i've gotten my friend hooked on letterboxing and we have now found a couple more stamps together and plan on finding some more. so here's the photo of the statue.

-saw some really cool constumes. there were some venture brothers, jarlaxe, mord siths, raistlin majere and Lauralanthalasa Kanan, captain america and red skull, a million harry potters and a million dr's from the different dr. who's, steampunk, star wars, star trek, firefly and sooooo much more.

dragon con
so i thought i would share my excitement with everyone. for the last three years, i have been going to comic conventions. my first year was wizard world of chicago, the second one was c2e2 and this year i'm going to dragon con. i'm very excited for dragon con this year! it's next weekend and it's in atlanta, GA.
why am i posting this here? well, writers, stan lee, timothy zhan, and tracy hickman are all going to be there. i'm totally excited about getting their signatures and meeting them. for those who don't know: stan lee is the original creator for many different comics at marvel, timothy zhan wrote the three books that come after the 6th star wars movie and tracy hickman is one of the authors for the dragonlance series.
i'm also totally excited for i'll be cosplaying for the first time. i'm going to wear a steampunk out fit. i'm wearing a corset, some black leggins, bullet casing, and some black riding boots. plus steampunk jewelry. i'm totally excited about it all. i'll post pictures of my outfit when i come back.
so over all i'm totally stoked and can't wait! i'll put some pictures here and i'll definatlly have pictures up on my flickr. hurray for conventions!

booklamp
so i've found this awesome website called booklamp that its kind of like pandora only for books. you type a genre/author/title of book and they find other books for you that relate to what you typed in there. so for example: if i type dragons of the hourglass mage by margaret weis and tracy hickman; i will get other books by the same authors and i will get books that have the same kind of themes in the book. like rocky terrain, physical injury and military campaign. there aren't a ton of books in the database, but there are a bunch. so it's a cool way to find more books to read that are similar to books you already like.

disney donates $500k and 8 thousand books
Disney is going to donate $500,000 and eight million books to First Book, a national nonprofit organization that provides new books to children in need.
Since its founding in 1992, First Book has distributed more than 85 million new books to children from low-income families in thousands of communities throughout the United States and Canada. First Book now distributes an average of more than 25,000 books per day. Disney Publishing Worldwide has worked with First Book since 1999, helping to get books into the hands of kids and their families. Last year, First Book distributed a total of 7.5 million books; the donation of eight million Disney books – including titles for the youngest readers up through teen series – will help First Book double this number.

a friend of mine shared with me some quotes from the street artist bansky and i just had to share with everyone one specific quote.
"If you only ever read one book in your life I highly recommend...you keep your fucking mouth shut."
i know i've been a little behind in my sharing quotes, i'll have a post soon with a bunch more.

banned books in missouri
Republic High School in Republic, Mo., banned two books, including slaughterhouse-five by kurt vonnegut, after a parent complained that the books advocate principles contrary to the Bible. After a yearlong fight, the Republic district’s school board voted unanimously monday to ban Mr. Vonnegut’s book and sarah ockler's “Twenty Boy Summer,” based on the complaints of Republic resident wesley scroggins, a professor of management at missiouri state university, and the father of several home-schooled children.

edit: msnbc's today website stated that: Up to 150 students at a Missouri high school that ordered "Slaughterhouse-Five" pulled from its shelves can get a free copy of the novel, courtesy of the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library.

i heart drizzt
so today (sunday) was amazing for as i was driving home someone yelled out their car window to me, "i love your bumper sticker!" i yelled back - knowing they were talking to me - "which one?" they answered "i love drizzt!" i hollered and even raised my arm out of the car in excitement. and their car was filled with people and they all yelled it out at the same time. it was amazing. it made my day. i just love when people recognize the nerdy fantasy literature bumper stickers i have. hehe. and for those of your who haven't seen my car, here's a picture.
my car today has a couple more bumper stickers, but you get the idea. hehe.
