booklamp

so i've found this awesome website called booklamp that its kind of like pandora only for books. you type a genre/author/title of book and they find other books for you that relate to what you typed in there. so for example: if i type dragons of the hourglass mage by margaret weis and tracy hickman; i will get other books by the same authors and i will get books that have the same kind of themes in the book. like rocky terrain, physical injury and military campaign. there aren't a ton of books in the database, but there are a bunch. so it's a cool way to find more books to read that are similar to books you already like.

so on the website www.etsy.com where you can buy pretty much anything, it's like ebay but you are not bidding on the products. if you want it, you just buy it. most of the stuff is hand made, which makes it even cooler. so while looking around on the site i found a charles bukowski altered antique plate. just awesome! hehe. here's the link if you'd like to buy it. hehe. here's a picture of the plate.

so there's a great website called teefury that every day it sells a new tshirt. the shirts are designed by different artists and are only available for 24hrs. but the cool thing is that they are original shirts and they are only $9. and the shirts are available for both men and women. today's shirt is this:

so on entertainmentearth.com you can buy an edgar allan poe oil painting. i don't know if i would want it, but it's pretty cool looking. it's just a portrait of the writer. but it's still cool looking. here it is...

kickstarter part 2

up date on the wonderful kickstarter project i was telling you about. in the 3 days left for them to raise the money, they raised $1400 more than they needed! woot woot! i'm so glad this project got the money it needed. here's the link again if you would like to check it out. and congrats to the desert island supply co!

kickstarter

so i don't know if you've noticed, but on my list of websites to visit i have kickstarter. which is this great website that lets people start projects with the help of people from all over the country. you pledge so much money and then the people from the project give you things in return of pledging your money. but you don't have to pay what you pledge unless the project reaches it's projected goal within a certain amount of time.

so for example: say i'm trying to publish a book of poems. so i figure i'm going to need about $5000 to fund the whole thing. so i say on kickstarter, i need that much money. and if you pledge say $10 i'll give you an individual poem signed by me. if you pledge $50 i'll give you the whole book of poems numbered and signed by me. so on and so forth. but you only have to pay your money if i reach my $5000 goal.

well i ran across this kickstarter project and it only has until august 7th to reach it's goal. i wanted to share it with you for it's a writing group trying to raise money to better their writing space. the group is called the desert island supply co (disco) and it's a writing group for kids aging from 6-18. i think this is a great little group and should reach it's goal. here's the link to this specific kickstarter.

dating by the book

so there's a new dating website that finds you matches based on what kind of books you like to read. on the website alikewise.com you fill out some information about your self, but the biggest thing you fill out is what books you like. you can then click on the book you have listed and then see who else has listed the book on their profile. you can also search the website by a book you like or by an author you like. i think it's an interesting way to find people to date. i know i like it when i find people who are just as interested in books as i am. so if you've tried other dating websites, why not try this one. it's free. and everyone like's free.

so there's this website called i write like that when you paste some of your own writing into the box, it will analyze your writing and tell you what famous person you write like. well i put in my a lighted carousel poem and the website said i write like:

poets & writers: children reading

so one of my favorite magazines to read is poets & writers. it has great tips about writing, and college's with mfa's, and anything really to do with the industry of writing. they list contests that are coming out, and they list the past winners of those contests. which i like for it gives those writers some exposer to a larger audience. well on 4/26 they posted their daily news on their website and they had an article about children reading. so i clicked on it and it was an article about how parents might be part of the problem children don't read as much. not just video games and other media things, which get blamed all the time, and i think a part of the reason, but not all of the reason (were there enough comma's for you?). the article stated that parents must let their children choose what they read and not force reading on the child. it goes on to give 5 tips that will help parents to help children read more. and i have to say that after reading the article i would agree with the statements made in the article.

reading was never forced on me as a kid, well besides stuff from school. and i read all the time as a kid and that still continues today. the only restrictions that were ever inforced on me as a kid reading, were the prices of the books. i could never get one book that was $30. but i could get a couple books that added up to $30. other than that, i never had any reading restrictions. and i think that is a big reason why i have no fear reading anything today. i read everything and anything. and from reading everything, i know the different types of books i like and the ones i don't like.

so all in all, i think that this is a good article for parents to read and i'm glad poets & writers posted the article.

graham crackers

well some things have happened and i don't work at graham crackers any more. so i won't be writing any comic reviews for the website any more. i know i'll still be writing about comics on this blog, but it just didn't work out for me and graham. oh well, nothing i can do about it. so on ward i go. my love for comics is still there and i will definatly be still reading them. i could never stop reading comics!

little things here and there.

muse concert was amazing! it was by far the greatest concert i have ever gone to, and i've seen some awesome bands in concert. the venue was nice too. i saw muse at the united center in chicago. i wasn't that close, but i could still see them with no problems, and that is all that matters. it rocked my socks off!

i've recently purchased the dr horrible sing-along blog soundtrack and dvd, which are amazing! the writing is good, there's a bunch of tonge and cheek stuff. but the best part is the music! the music was written wonderfully! for a short film (42 minutes), filmed indie style (only costed 200,000 and the actors weren't conpensated when they filmed the movie), it has wonderful music scores! so great job whedon brothers and maurissa tancharoen.

last week i got a letter back from the wisconsin review. they turned down my 2 poems i sent them. that's fine. you can't win them all. the poems really go together and i think they deserve to get published, so i'll just send them to another place. if you can't take rejection don't go into the publishing buisness. publishing of any kind, music, book, movies, etc.

i'm working on two different articles for application to jobs. well one is an internship and another is an unpaid job. you get paid in perks. both are for websites. but i would love to work for them. so i'm working on my application. when i hear back from the places i will share with you guys.

new comic wednesday

this week i reviewed the stand. it's based on the book by stephen king. i've never read the book so i have no clue if it's following the books story line. i only assume it's doing the best it can, but sometimes things just don't translate the best. so i hope you like this weeks review.

new comic wednesday... kinda

last week i was lazy and just didn't write a review for graham crackers comics. well this week i did write a review and my boss forgot to post it on the website. thanks jimmy. well i will have to reprimand him today and make sure he posts it. i wrote a review for the new pet avengers comic that came out this week. i like the pet avengers, it's the only kiddy comic that i read. my favorite charactor is frog thor. there's just something about the comic that makes me want to read it. well once i've yelled (not really, i'll just text him) at my boss i'll post the review on here.

new comic wednesday

i wrote another review this week. i wrote one for captain america reborn #6.  this is definatly a weekly thing now. i'm having fun picking the different comics i will write about every week. and this is my first captain america review, which is totally exciting! and anyone who knows me, knows how in love i am with cap! so hope you like this weeks review. can't wait to see what i'll write about next week.

so it is new comic wednesday and as you know i work at the comic shop on wednesdays. well once again i was asked to write a review. so this time i reviewed avengers vs. the agents of atlas. this is my third time doing it and i defiantly think i'm getting the hang of writing these comic reviews. i'll probally be doing them way more often now since i'm more comfortable with it. hope you enjoy.

so this isn't a post about my writing. but a picture i took at the chicago comic-con was posted on another blog. greek orthodox is a blog i've been following and the guy posts funny pictures of people in their costumes. alot of the time he will post storm tropper costumes that have been ultered. like a disco storm trooper. so this is the picture i sent him. i thought it was cool that he posted it on his blog. the blog is really cool. it has everything nerdy, escpically star wars stuff. so go there and check it out!

dr. horrible review

i wrote another review for graham cracker comics this week. it's for the comic dr. horrible. i think it is written much better then the last review i wrote. like i had said before, the more i do it, the better it will get. plus the comic was great so it was easy to write about. hope you like the review and hope you like the comic.
