detriot librarys and mcdonalds team up for kids!

students in detriot are encouraged to visit their local library to pick up a mcdonald’s bookmark. each time they check out books, the card will be stamped by a librarian. once it’s stamped five times, the student can then take it to a local mcdonald’s in exchange for a complimentary happy meal or mighty kids meal. as an added incentive, each library will host a drawing every month and award a backpack and a $20 gift certificate redeemable at border’s bookstores to the lucky winner. entry forms can be filled out at one of the 24 library locations.

totally sweet! wish i lived in the detriot area.

happy birthday to me!

today this blog is one year old! woot woot! i can't believe i've been doing this for a year. it doesn't seem that long. it started out as a simple blog for a story i was writing. then i decided to change the direction and write about all things to do with writing. adding along the way things that are going on with my writing.  for today's post i think i'm going to highlight different posts i have done over the year. so here are some of my favorite posts from this past year.

the very first post i ever did
critics
tuna poem
celebrate banned books
the wheel of time turns
dr. horrible comic review
death
life is full of them
the first quoteables
world war z
the power of words
poetry coat
muse quoteables
poetry/art swap
a lighted carousel

wow, if you went back and read all of those, your amazing! thanks for sticking with me and i hope the next year is just as amazing as this past year has been. keep writing and keep reading.

free comic book day

this saturday was free comic book day. which means at all participating comic stores in america, there are free comics (and usually other cool stuff) to get (as to the other cool stuff, i won a tshirt at my comic book store). so for comic book nerds its heaven. marvel, dc and some of the independent comic book publishers all give out free ones. well marvel did a spiderman comic. and in the comic they quote the poem the tiger by william blake. it's really cool how they add the poem into the comic. the only thing that dosen't go well is that while it quotes the poem the tiger spiderman is fighting a lion. if your going to have a poem called the tiger maybe he should be up against a tiger. but then again the poem doesn't mention a tiger, it's just called the tiger. either way i thought it was really cool that marvel put poetry into its comic. hurray for marvel! i knew there was a reason i read almost only marvel comics; almost that is.

less than three

so this weekend jeremy and i celebrated our one year anniversary (which is tomorrow). and by celebrate he was sick and i was taking care of him. he has strep throat, so that sucks major balls. he was amazing though and got me some amazing stuff. he bought me the new poets & writers magazine, which looks like to be a good issue. it has a list of the 50 best mfa colleges. so that will be cool to look at and see what the magazine lists as the top ranking colleges. he also bought me the latest poetry literature magazine. i would love to one day be published in there. it's my dream to get something in there one day. and i know i will one day! so it was just awesome that he got me that for our anniversary. he got me a couple other things, but it doesn't have to do with writing. so sorry guys, i'm keeping those details to myself. either way jeremy is amazing and i love him to death! i'm very excited about reading the too things he got me and i'm excited about all the poetry. i really have an amazing boyfriend. <3

swag

i thought i would share the with you all the things i got at the book signing. here's my book and two of the three bumperstickers i got that night. the third bumpersticker is already on my car (i put it on that night) and it's a picture of just the wheel and the snake. also, the top signature is a copy of the author's that had died, robert jordan. that is in every book. the signature that i had gotten is the second one.
