back
hey there everyone! i'm back. i hope you didn't miss me too much. hehe i'm all moved in. one of my best friends who lived in california moved here to chicago and i moved in with her. we have a cute little place in the down town area. though it's on the 5th floor and we have no elevator. so moving was a pain. but i think i might be starting to get use to the stairs. maybe... hehe. while i've been oot and aboot, my other best friend who lives in florida got married. that was amazing! i'm so happy for her. i had a blast out there. i got to spend 5 days on the beach, meet new people, see old friends and see my friend marry the love of her life. defiantly a good time. other then that, nothing too exciting happened here. just plugging away at this thing called life.

liu xiaobo - day break
so i was reading some of liu xiaobo's poetry and i came across this poem and just wanted to share it. i love the last stanza. one of the best i've ever read.
Daybreak
for Xia
over the tall ashen wall, between
the sound of vegetables being chopped
daybreak’s bound, severed,
dissipated by a paralysis of spirit
what is the difference
between the light and the darkness
that seems to surface through my eyes’
apertures, from my seat of rust
I can’t tell if it’s the glint of chains
in the cell, or the god of nature
behind the wall
daily dissidence
makes the arrogant
sun stunned to no end
daybreak a vast emptiness
you in a far place
with nights of love stored away

clinton-mezvinsky wedding poem
normally, i could give a crap about celebrity weddings. i don't care who was there, what they wore or anything else like that. but this time i am interested. chelsea clinton married marc mezvinsky and at their wedding a poem by leo marks was read. i like the poem, so i thought i would share it with all of you. (also a side note, happy birthday mom!)
The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours
The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.
The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours
The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

happy birthday to me!
today this blog is one year old! woot woot! i can't believe i've been doing this for a year. it doesn't seem that long. it started out as a simple blog for a story i was writing. then i decided to change the direction and write about all things to do with writing. adding along the way things that are going on with my writing. for today's post i think i'm going to highlight different posts i have done over the year. so here are some of my favorite posts from this past year.
the very first post i ever did
critics
tuna poem
celebrate banned books
the wheel of time turns
dr. horrible comic review
death
life is full of them
the first quoteables
world war z
the power of words
poetry coat
muse quoteables
poetry/art swap
a lighted carousel
wow, if you went back and read all of those, your amazing! thanks for sticking with me and i hope the next year is just as amazing as this past year has been. keep writing and keep reading.

death
so in the last couple of months some friends of mine family members have died and it has spurred me to write a poem about death. i finally have finished it and thought i would post it here. its strongly influenced by john donne's holy sonnet X. i love john donne's holy sonnets! holy sonnet X is my favorite and always influence's my death poems at least a little bit. so here's the poem i wrote, hope you like it.
The strongest of men fall to thee.
Smart or dumb,
rich or poor,
all are for your taking.
You know no bounds and
have no weaknesses.
And yet
I will not fall to thee.
Though some have called thee mighty,
you are nothing but an after thought to me.
For love
your greatest foe
protects me.
She shelters me with her guiding light.
Stand back,
oh mighty death,
and feel the stinging pains of love.
The strongest of men fall to thee.
Smart or dumb,
rich or poor,
all are for your taking.
You know no bounds and
have no weaknesses.
And yet
I will not fall to thee.
Though some have called thee mighty,
you are nothing but an after thought to me.
For love
your greatest foe
protects me.
She shelters me with her guiding light.
Stand back,
oh mighty death,
and feel the stinging pains of love.

one year
this is a poem i wrote for me and jeremy's one year anniversary.
You still make my heart go pitter patter
as if the world didn’t matter.
A year has gone by and
it’s still you and I.
With your toothy smile
and your
worn blue shoes,
you’ve danced your way into my heart.
You still make my heart go pitter patter
as if the world didn’t matter.
A year has gone by and
it’s still you and I.
With your toothy smile
and your
worn blue shoes,
you’ve danced your way into my heart.

less than three
so this weekend jeremy and i celebrated our one year anniversary (which is tomorrow). and by celebrate he was sick and i was taking care of him. he has strep throat, so that sucks major balls. he was amazing though and got me some amazing stuff. he bought me the new poets & writers magazine, which looks like to be a good issue. it has a list of the 50 best mfa colleges. so that will be cool to look at and see what the magazine lists as the top ranking colleges. he also bought me the latest poetry literature magazine. i would love to one day be published in there. it's my dream to get something in there one day. and i know i will one day! so it was just awesome that he got me that for our anniversary. he got me a couple other things, but it doesn't have to do with writing. so sorry guys, i'm keeping those details to myself. either way jeremy is amazing and i love him to death! i'm very excited about reading the too things he got me and i'm excited about all the poetry. i really have an amazing boyfriend. <3
